The film studio Paramount has announced the addition of a new, as yet untitled "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie to its release schedule, marking the calendar for November 17, 2028. Coupled with this, the studio has also slated another movie event within the "Sonic Universe" for release just in time for the holidays on December 22, 2028.

Moreover, Paramount has shared its plan to celebrate "Top Gun's" 40th anniversary by reviving the popular film for the big screen on May 13, 2026.

As of yet, very little detail has been shared about the upcoming "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Sonic" movies, with the studio opting to maintain an air of mystery. What has been confirmed, however, is the involvement of Neal H. Moritz, renowned producer of the successful "Sonic the Hedgehog" trilogy, who will also be spearheading this new cinematic venture into the world of the "Ninja Turtles."

The forthcoming "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" film is slated to be a family-friendly, live-action/CG animation hybrid experience, shining a spotlight once again on the turtle brothers Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo. This will be the first time since the underwhelming 2016 release "Out of the Shadows" that the franchise has attempted a live-action format. In the interim, Paramount has seen moderate success with the animation approach, as evidenced by 2023's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," penned by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The sequel, "Mutant Mayhem 2" is due to premiere on September 17, 2027.

Meanwhile, the soon-to-be-released "Sonic" movie - which is based on the Sega video game series - will be a distinct entity from "Sonic the Hedgehog 4," which is already in the pipeline for March 19, 2027. The "Sonic" franchise has proven itself a profitable venture for Paramount, with the first three films collectively grossing over $1 billion worldwide.

"Top Gun," the iconic aeronautical action film starring Tom Cruise and directed by Tony Scott, was originally launched in 1986 and rapidly ascended to become that year's highest grossing film, earning $357.4 million. The movie tells the tale of Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a superstar aviator striving to prove himself as the best fighter pilot. Cruise reprised his performance for the 2022 follow-up, “Top Gun: Maverick,” which soared to incredible heights, earning $1.49 billion and holding the title of Paramount’s most lucrative film in their 113-year record.
