Zootopia 2: A Hit Among Young and Old?
- Dec 1, 2025
The much-anticipated sequel to the animated smash hit, Zootopia 2 is finally here. Given the hype, it's unsurprising that cinema-goers, families, and Disney enthusiasts are pouring in to check out this latest creation. But how is it faring among its key demographic? According to one insider – none other than Jason Bateman, the voice behind the savvy fox character Nick Wilde – it's going over big with his notably picky daughters.
Bateman has two daughters with actress Amanda Anka: Francesca, aged 19, and Maple, aged 13. These real-life critics are reportedly tough to please. In a chat with Heart Radio, Bateman revealed his daughters’ candid feedback on the sequel. "They were very excited on the first one. They were less excited that I was doing the second one. But then they saw it, and they freaked out," shared the proud father. The older one even named it as one of the best movies she'd watched in over a year, noting its nonstop action and multiple layers.
Bateman's daughters were just the right ages to enjoy a Walt Disney Animation movie like Zootopia when it first released almost a decade ago. Though they've now become more discerning of their father's work, they were charmed by Zootopia 2. And they're not alone. Since its release, critical reception has been positive. CinemaBlend gave the movie a 4 out of 5 stars. Rotten Tomatoes shows a score of 91 percent from critics and 95 percent from audiences, while an "A" grade from CinemaScore is also notable.

Bateman's kids are not alone in their struggle to separate their father from his roles. In Bateman's own words, they find it challenging to watch his works as it’s like watching a different person, “Well, you're up there, you're faking it. That's not you,” remarked Bateman. Given that most of his previous projects aren’t exactly kid-friendly, it must be satisfying for Bateman to participate in a film his daughters can both enjoy and respect.
In Zootopia 2, Bateman’s character, Nick Wilde, strengthens his bond with his partner Judy Hopps, a rabbit policewoman voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin. The dynamic duo then uncovers a historical city-wide mystery. The sequel also features Ke Huy Quan as a pit viper named Gary D’Snake, pivotal to the movie's core mystery and plot.
And if you're wondering whether Zootopia 2 will hold up over time? The initial reactions seem promising, but only time will tell if Bateman's daughters, like the rest of us, will anticipate the release of a potential Zootopia 3 as hinted at in the post-credits scene. For now, we encourage you to support Zootopia 2 on the big screen and stream the original 2016 movie on Disney+.
